As I said in my last post, I am a huge fan of music and it means an awful lot to me, but if it wasn’t for certain types of technology, some of the music that I know and love probably wouldn’t exist. For this article I am going to focus on Dubstep and the history of this particular type of music that relies so heavily on technology.

Dubstep is a type of music that relies on technology, as it uses a variety of computer programs to strip certain noises, samples and bass lines form their original songs and places them in a deeper (more bass) tone to make songs from.

The article (linked below) is about the history of the type of music that dubstep is and its history, from the streets and clubs of cockney London in places like Soho to the worldwide stage with huge dubstep artists such as Flux Pavilion, Zeds Dead and Datsik.

Since dubsteps early beginning it has developed and grown over time. What was once a single of music now has many different sub-genres such as rapstep (combined with rap) and chillstep (a slower, more calming version of the original). Technology wise, dubstep is a intricate creation using the newest technology available to music such as equalizers and distortion buttons which make the sounds heard within the music.

In my opinion, dubstep is a perfect example of where music is going in the future as it combines the newest technology with old musical techniques and original music such as Reggae. I use dubstep when im using technology at home and making music with my DJset and my Laptop as it is easy to handle and control being already tech based.

As I said, dubstep and all electronic music is the way of the future and is certainly a prime example of technology in the digital age. But it is the use of synthetic beats and transformer like sounds on such a low frequency that appeal (psychologicaly) to the younger generation.Although the artist has a simple set up (Laptop, turntables,  speakers) the technology can be within the different computer programs in the laptop which nowdays can mimic even the newest of digital instruments such as sequencers and drum machines.

In the end, for me anyways, it is the raw noises, the awesome drops and the techy sound which attracts me the most to this type of musc, the speed of the digital age combined with the newest technology is what makes this type of music so appealing to me and therefore why I enjoy it so much.
